Manchester Marathon 2023

Manchester Marathon

Our Director, Carl and Labour Manager Chris, took part in this year’s Manchester Marathon in April to raise funds for two of our main charities.

The Spring marathon, took place on Sunday 16th April, starting and finishing around Manchester United’s famous Old Trafford ground and followed a 26.2 mile course through the major landmarks Manchester has to offer. It was a community event which raised funds for local charities. Funds raised by both of our runners go to Springhill Hospice and Andy’s Man Club.

Chris, who ran the event on his own last year, said; “Carl came along and met me at the finish line last year. He said he would run the next one with me so there was no letting him off. For my first marathon last year I got a reasonable time of 03:57, so I was proud to set a new personal best of 03:28. Again, it was a fantastic atmosphere and there was great camaraderie and support amongst all the runners taking part.”

Springhill Hospice provides specialist palliative care services, whilst Andy’s Man Club is a powerful talking group, providing men with a safe space to openly discuss their worries and mental health concerns.

Carl, who ran his first ever marathon said," Firstly, I just want to say a huge thanks to the crowds who supported all of the runners on the day. Also, the volunteers giving all the water out, the bands and DJ’s, and all of the kids giving the sweats and high fives. Everyone played a collective part on the day, which helped us support the two fantastic charities. Chris kept saying to me in the office, don’t wear your earphones, you have got to listen to the crowd and get the atmosphere in. He was not wrong. I took them out running down Deansgate, everyone shouting your name and cheering you on, it was such a great feeling and gave me that extra 10%.

Although happy I got over the line in 05:13, I have the bug now, so we have already signed up for next year. We were very proud to have raised more than double this year than what we raised last year. So we've set a target of £2000 for 2024 and a personal best for me of 04:30.'' Watch this space!

Finally, we would like to say a BIG thanks to everyone who supported the boys.
